Role
The Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of heavy machinery and vehicles used in road construction projects. This includes earthmoving equipment (excavators, bulldozers, loaders), transit mixers, tippers, water tankers, and haulage tractor heads. The role is typically based on project sites and involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and ensuring minimal downtime. This role is pivotal to maintaining seamless operations on construction sites, ensuring machinery uptime, and supporting the company's commitment to project timelines and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and servicing of Earthmoving and automobile vehicles.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues to restore functionality.
- Conduct periodic inspections to identify potential failures or malfunctions.
Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
- Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Analyze technical problems and implement effective repair solutions promptly.
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to extend equipment lifespan.
- Maintain records of service history and ensure adherence to OEM guidelines.
On-Site Support
- Provide on-site technical support during equipment breakdowns to minimize project delays.
- Collaborate with operators to understand issues and provide quick resolutions.
Inventory and Spare Parts Management
- Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to source high-quality replacement parts.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
- Submit regular reports on equipment health and operational readiness to the project manager.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and standards while working on machinery.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and company guidelines for equipment maintenance.
Technical Skills
- Expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems of heavy machinery.
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of equipment brands like Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo etc
Problem-Solving Skills
- Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve complex mechanical issues.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines during equipment breakdowns.
Interpersonal Skills
- Effective communication with operators, site managers, and vendors.
- Ability to train operators on basic troubleshooting and safe equipment usage.
Organizational Skills
- Attention to detail in maintaining service records and following maintenance schedules.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple equipment systems simultaneously.
Physical and Environmental Adaptability
- Comfortable working in challenging project site environments.
- Physically fit to handle the demands of repairing heavy equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Diploma or BE in Automobile/ Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Earthmoving & Automobile Maintenance
- Certifications: OEM-specific certifications (e.g., Caterpillar, Volvo, JCB) are an advantage.
Additional Requirements
- Driving License: Valid commercial vehicle or heavy vehicle license.
- Availability: Willingness to travel and work at remote project sites.
- Tools: Knowledge of modern tools and software for equipment diagnostics.
