Role:
The role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of electrical systems installation, testing, commissioning, and completion of the substation project. This role requires managing project timelines, budgets, and resources while ensuring compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and local/international codes. Job Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop project schedules, work plans, and coordinate with various teams (engineering, procurement, and construction) for seamless execution.
- Ensure that the project milestones, timelines, and deadlines are met.
- Manage the installation, commissioning, and testing of substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
Budget and Cost Control:
- Prepare project budgets, cost estimates, and manage expenditures.
- Ensure the project stays within the allocated budget and take necessary steps to control any cost overruns.
Coordination with Stakeholders:
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and local authorities to ensure proper coordination and approvals.
- Hold regular meetings with stakeholders to report on project progress, challenges, and any required modifications.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local and international electrical safety standards, such as IEEE, IEC, and any specific Kuwaiti regulations.
- Manage inspections and certification processes from relevant authorities.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential project risks (technical, safety, financial) and develop mitigation strategies.
- Implement safety measures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Oversee the quality of electrical works and ensure the project meets required specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to standards and contractual requirements.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor the project team, including engineers, supervisors, and contractors.
- Allocate resources effectively and ensure that team members are aligned with project objectives.
Technical Expertise:
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting for complex electrical systems.
- Ensure correct implementation of electrical designs, wiring diagrams, and power distribution systems.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. A Master's degree or certification in project management (PMP) is preferred.
Experience:
- 8-10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 3-5 years in project management roles involving substations or power distribution systems.
- Experience in managing substation projects in the Middle East, especially Kuwait, is an added advantage.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of substation design, construction, and commissioning processes.
- Proficiency in electrical design software and project management tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project, Primavera).
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEEE, IEC, and NEMA.
Project Management Skills:
- Excellent leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with experience in managing complex projects and large teams.
- Familiarity with cost control, scheduling, and risk management techniques.
Communication and Negotiation:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, contractors, and team members.
- Ability to negotiate contracts, change orders, and resolve disputes efficiently.
Cultural Background:
- A GCC National with strong knowledge of ARABIC.
- Experience working with multinational teams and stakeholders.
Certifications:
- Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) is highly desirable
Language Skills:
- Proficiency in English is essential.
- Knowledge of Arabic is mandatory.
