Purpose
Logistics and supply chain manger to be mainly responsible for the export and import shipments of the company from various ports of West Africa. Mainly but not limited to Tema, Lome, Abidjan, Banjul, Bissau and Cotonou ports, inter and intra country movement by trucks, air and sea.
Responsibilities
- Direct, optimize and coordinate all shipments with the logistics and trade team.
- Skilled at negotiating contracts, container freights, charges at most competetive rates and terms.
- Liaise, negotiate and maintain excellent rapport with freight forwards, CHA, customs, transporters and other government agencies to secure preferred routes, rates and charges. Ensuring that sub-contractors are effectively managed and reviewed.
- To deepen relationships with existing vendors and develop with new vendors and suppliers across West Africa.
- Strategically coordinate among the procurement, warehouse, shipping, documentation teams and other external stakeholders for planning and execution of timely and efficient shipments.
- Meet cost, productivity, accuracy and timeliness targets. Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements
- Timely and efficient shipments with minimum detention and demurrage. Solve Possible queries and complications at the destination port by liasioning with the shipping line, freight forwarder and the client teams.
- Ownership of the flow of work from planning, pre-shipment, shipment documentation to smooth discharge of goods at the destination. Working closely with the trade team to ensuring contract execution on timely basis.
- Overseeing timely Documentation preparation, correction, and approval as per contract and LC terms.
- Working closely with the procurement team across West Africa to ensure their logistics requirements are taken care of in a timely, efficient and competitive manner. Both land transport- upcountry & cross border and marine transport as the case may be.
- To oversee and develop the inland truck logistics are completive and develop vendors for the same in coordination with the procurement and shipment team.
- To find efficient means of transport across land borders of neighboring West African countries by being well networked with vendors, custom officers and CHA agents.
- Developing strategies for efficient transport of goods by trucks from upcountry to the ports and inter country movements.
- To be able to navigate through various custom laws or complications in case of exports or imports- both land and marine transport.
- Resolve any arising problems or complaints. Supervise, monitor and train existing shipment and warehouse workforce.
- Track, control and budget expenses related to fuel, shipping and trucking and equipment maintenance.
- Implementing cost reduction principles in all aspects of warehousing, shipping and transportation activities. Ensuring that goods are delivered in the right quantities, to the right customer, at the right cost and at the right time.
- Identify process bottleneck and implement solutions in a timely manner. Suggest solutions for process improvements.
- Determine key supply chain KPIs by Implementing the tools or techniques that are related to logistics and supply chain management processes for a more effective and easier job.
- Ensuring that all objectives, instructions, and directions from the trade teams are successfully achieved by Troubleshooting shipping issues in timely manner.
- Adept at handling transit, marine and goods Insurance policies
- Ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date and complaint with local and destination rules and regulations.
- Write sourcing documentations and assist in procurement and sourcing of adhoc supplies and requirements.
- Report and prepare MIS as per requirement.
